Cabo Rojo Lighthouse

I found very little information about this lighthouse, but here it goes.  The construction of this lighthouse began in 1877 and took 5 years to complete because of its far away location.  It was finally ready and began to operate in 1882.  It was designed by Enrique Gadea.  When the lighthouse was completed he received the prestigious Charles III Knight Cross for his efforts and achievements.  Its first lighthouse keepers where Jose Perez Barrios and Eugenio Fiol.  The central tower is 42ft tall.  It is located in Street 301.  It is a little difficult to reach because no motorized vehicle is authorized close the lighthouse.  You have to leave the car in a designated area and take a 10 to 15 minute walk to reach the place.  But once there, it is stunning!  The lighthouse is located very close to a considerably high cliff.  Down that cliff is the beach.  The feeling of being so close to the edge is breathtaking.  It was a wonderful experience working in this lighthouse.
